Commissioning an index

In order to provide you with a quotation or a time estimate for completing your index, I would ask you to provide the following information:

When is the index required?

How many pages does the book have?

What is the intended readership group of the book (for example, students, professional practitioners, general etc.) 

Do you have a house style or preferred indexing conventions?

Is there a set fee or would you like a quotation for the work?

What is the preferred length and layout of the index?

You will then receive a quotation for the work, or agreement to your set fee, and, if required, written confirmation of what I understand your requirements to be. Once you have provided me with the final proofs of the text I will compile the index, and send this to you in the agreed format by the set deadline.
